I recently learned how to pan fry salmon and it has changed the way I will cook it from now on. The delicious way it browns in the pan adds a depth of extra flavour and yet keeps it wonderfully juicy.  Pair this with any favourite sauce or eat it plain – it is fantastic either way!

I have to admit that salmon is one of my absolute favourite foods. Salmon is high in omega-3 fatty acids and many other vitamins and minerals making it highly nutritious. I have always baked it though which takes a lot longer in the oven, and in summertime I use the oven as little as possible. So when I learned how to pan fry Salmon this was a game changer.

How long to pan fry salmon?

Salmon is pan fried for about 5-6 minutes per side on medium / high heat. Depending on the thickness of the fillet you should cook it until it is flaky and an internal minimum temperature of 145 degrees is reached.

How to season salmon?

There are many ways how to season salmon including lemon juice, dill, garlic, butter, and many different seafood seasoning mixes off the shelf. You can sprinkle on lemon pepper, garlic pepper and even ginger to give it a little kick.

One helpful tip for pan frying salmon is that you need to slice a full fillet instead of putting the whole fillet in the frying pan. When you slice it into about 200 gram pieces they are easier to flip and are less likely to fall apart as they cook. Try to make them about the same size and thickness so they are done at the same time.

Hi Kerami. I cook salmon every week as it is my favourite food. I cook my salmon in the oven alot of the time – a little butter on the bottom of the kitchen foil, place the salmon on top. Put salt, pepper, dill and lemon slices on top. Seel the foil tightly and cook in the oven at 180c for about 10 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fish. The result is tasty, moist salmon with the natural juices in the foil. I normally serve with a dollop of mayo on the side. Enjoy.5 stars
